ACER – Applied Reading Test (Basic)
Purpose: To assess reading comprehension of candidates for various job roles and courses.
Employment categories: Apprentices, trainees, technical, trade and administration personnel, and others who may need to read and understand written work-related instructions, including health and safety information.
Administration: 30 minutes
Content: The ACER Applied Reading Test Second Edition (ART-2) is a quick and easily administered test of adult literacy. It is suitable for recruitment selection into administrative, trades or operational positions; assessing the literacy of adults with a non-English speaking background; and testing for entry into TAFE or further education courses. It can also be used to assess the reading comprehension of those returning to work or study after rehabilitation or long-term unemployment, as well as of those with disabilities or medical conditions.
Basic Literacy is designed to assess basic literacy skills for selection into operational roles or applied courses with minimal literacy requirements.
General /Clerical is a general applied reading test suitable for selection into administrative and clerical roles or courses.
Technical /Trades is appropriate for selection into trade and technical roles or courses. The content deals with topics such as industrial safety and machine operation and maintenance.
